Meet the Teachers

We wanted to share with you perspectives from a few of our teachers in Woodlawn Chapel’s Play & Learn program. As you can see, we have a diverse background among them, thus giving your child a wealth of experiences for their days here with us. We are very proud of the quality environment that we provide to each of the children that we have the pleasure of teaching, singing, playing, reading, writing and having fun with each day!

MISS SANDY: I joined Woodlawn Chapel in 2023 and was a Neonatal ICU nurse for 18 years prior to that. I love seeing the children’s smiling, happy faces and helping each of them to learn at their own pace. The babies/toddlers have so much fun learning and growing through play. I enjoy watching children explore their world and hit developmental milestones. It’s a privilege to work with these great teachers in this enriching and nurturing program.

MISS SUSAN: I have been a teacher at Woodlawn Chapel since 2022, after retiring from a career in retail. I am a mom of two and “Grandma Susie” to six, so working with children comes naturally to me. My favorite part of working at Woodlawn Chapel is the community of teachers and families. I love working with our two year-olds and watching them grow into kind and confident children.

MISS VENUS: My love of children began when I started babysitting in 6th grade and I have loved working with children ever since. My experience includes working with children at the MOPS (Mothers of Pre-School) program, as well as at area preschools and aftercare programs. I believe each child is precious and all have different ways of learning. I have always seen the most growth when they are having fun while learning and are given positive lttle hoorays!

MISS LISA: I’ve been a teacher at Woodlawn Chapel since 2008, which also includes teaching music. It’s truly a passion of mine to be able to teach little ones. It gives me such joy every day! This is a very kind and loving atmosphere because the teachers and Woodlawn staff work together to make every day a great experience for the children.

MISS JESSICA: I am happy to be a part of the Play and Learn program at Woodlawn hapel. My background is in education; I previously taught middle and high school French before taking time off to raise my two wonderful daughters. I’m so excited to be back in the classroom, especially with this age group. I’ve always loved their curiosity, energy, and big personalities! I enjoy creating a calm and warm environment where little ones feel loved and ready to learn through hands-on fun and lots of imagination.

MISS AMY W: I’ve been at Woodlawn since 2015. I have enjoyed ten years of teaching in the Four Year Old room. I love watching the kids learn new things and have fun while doing it. The children make me laugh and bring me joy in the most unexpected ways.

MISS JEN: I’m very grateful and excited for the opportunity to make a positive difference with the youth and families at Woodlawn Chapel Play and Learn Preschool. I’ve worked over a decade in classrooms ranging from Pre-K to 2nd grade as well as coaching youth sports and managing programs. I am passionate in educating and supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of children. My goal is to help students build confidence, develop emotional intelligence, and reach their full potential.

MISS ASHLEIGH:  I’ve been a member of Woodlawn Chapel for the past twenty years and have enjoyed working with children during Woodlawn’s Vacation Bible School. At Lafayette High School, I completed several child development courses and loved learning about how to help preshchoolers learn and grow. I’m excited to serve as a teacher assistant and am grateful for the opportuiity to love and support the children in the program.
